Shooting Star Lodge stands on top of a coral cliff above the stunning Kiwengwa Beach and is built and is run by an engaging and very welcoming Tanzanian called Elly, and his lovely English wife, Lesley. Shooting Star Lodge is one of Zanzibars best value for money lodges and is the romantic, intimate and effortlessly stylish option, and benefits from a small but lovely infinity pool, the absence of nearby resorts to spoil views or the silence, and one of Zanzibar's best restaurants. The accommodation
All the accommodation at Shooting Star Lodge is built to a high standard in traditional Zanzibari style Shooting Star Lodge bedroom with white limewashed walls, high beamed ceilings and large windows. Our Sea View Cottages all contain beautifully hand-carved wooden Zanzibari beds draped with tailored mosquito net canopies. Cottages are air-conditioned and are also equipped with electric fans to complement Kiwengwa's cool sea breezes.
The suites Kusi and Kaskazi are set on the crest of the hill apart from the main hotel guest rooms. Each suite is laid out on 3 floors with 2 bedrooms and a private swimming pool, set amidst a tropical garden. They are furnished with stunning traditional Zanzibar furniture and batik linen. From the roof of the Shooting Star Lodge pool Villa panoramic views can be enjoyed from the bathtub and there is a fully netted bed so that the fabulous stary night skies can be enjoyed. Both suites have ceiling fans as well as being fully air conditioned.The Beach Bar of Shooting Star lodge is a perfect place to relax and unwind in the daytime, lunch can be served here and private barbecues or sunrise breakfasts can be arranged. The beach area is equipped with bandas for shade with hammocks and sunbeds. We have a shower on the beach for those who want to spend time down there and cool off.
Things to do
Venture out across the coral reef which unfolds like a carpet at the foot of our beach steps and Shooting Star Lodge explore the marine life amongst its tidal pools; visit fishing villages just next door where you'll be warmly welcomed by the inhabitants. Shop for trinkets, carvings and brightly coloured, wrap-around cotton sarongs or "kangas" at Kiwengwa's local bazaar. Witness the morning rituals of the local women farming seaweed and the fishermen returning with their catch. And in the hazy late afternoons, lie back and listen to the lively melodies of children singing as they gather cockles and mussels in the shallows. Bicycles are available for hire and are an ideal way to cruise around the local area and become a part of this rhythmic tropical tapestry.
On other days, simply immerse yourself in the balmy waters of the Indian Ocean when the tide is high. You might also like to try a floodlit swim in the crystal clear pools of a limestone cave. For those with more energy to burn, here on Kiwengwa beach we can easily arrange recreational scuba diving, PADI courses, snorkelling, fishing, boat trips and wind surfing.
Visits to Zanzibar Town, the Red Colobus monkeys of Jozani Forest, Spice Tours, Sunset Cruises and trips to many sights of historical interest can also be organised.
